‘Samantha Who?’ builds its audience
It’s been a long time since ABC had a promising new sitcom, and “Samantha Who?” is looking better each week. The critically lauded Christina Applegate show posted a series best among adults 18-49 last night, again holding a good chunk of its “Dancing with the Stars” lead-in and performing particularly well among women.
“Samantha” averaged a 4.9 in 18-49s, according to Nielsen overnights, up 7 percent over last week’s 4.6 and holding 84 percent of “Stars’” final half hour lead-in at 9 p.m., which was up 0.1 over the previous week.
The amnesia comedy’s third episode also hit a series high among total viewers with 15.4 million, 1 million more than the previous week. Read the rest of this entry »
In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, sources confirm that ABC has picked up Samantha Who? for a full season. In its first three airings, the Christina Applegate-fronted memory-loss satire has retained a good chunk of its Dancing with the Stars lead-in, easily ranking as the most-watched new comedy of the fall.

Living in Southern California (aka the entertainment capital of the world), I see all kinds of advertisements for entertainment-related things when I’m out and about. It didn’t come as a big surprise to me when Samantha Who? billboards, bus stop posters, and bus ads starting appearing in the Hollywood area. However, I imagine the campaign is targeted toward bigger markets and thought it might be fun to document a few ads for fans who might not have seen them.

The Wedding: Overjoyed that somebody must have liked her, Samantha jumps at the chance to assume her role as bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding. However she shows up to the wedding only to learn she’s been uninvited by the bride. At first dejected, and then motivated by the challenge of vindication, Sam sets out to apologize and be re-accepted by the bride.

Excellent news! As Kristin also points out, Samantha Who? is easily the biggest new show of the season thus far, averaging 14 million viewers a week.

‘Samantha Who?’ up its second week
Before the premiere of ABC’s new comedy “Samantha Who?,” buyers thought it stood a good chance of becoming the strongest comedy in the Monday 9:30 p.m. timeslot. After two weeks, it appears to be on its way.
Last night’s episode of “Samantha,” its second, posted a 4.6 overnight rating among viewers 18-49, up just a slight 2 percent versus the 4.5 for last week’s premiere. While that might not seem like much in itself, it’s a promising sign for the show. It’s one of the few new shows this season to actually boost its rating during its second week.
“Samantha” also finished first in its timeslot among total viewers with 14.4 million, ahead of the 11.3 million NBC’s “Heroes” averaged in that half hour.

If you’re looking for a silver lining in that whole Deadwood movie debacle, here ya go: Sources confirm that Timothy (aka Deadwood lawman Seth Bullock) has landed a recurring role on ABC’s irresistible Samantha Who?.
He’ll play the new boss and potential love interest to Christina Applegate’s title character. Olyphant starts work today, which means you shouldn’t expect to see him on screen until December or January.
